A passion for interior design leads to furniture making course

/ Success Story
Coming from a creative background in fashion, Danielle Williamson was always intrigued by how pieces of furniture were put together.

“I am a stay-at-home mum and working part-time in a retail store but I have always had a passion for furniture and interior design,” she said.

Danielle enrolled in the Certificate II in Furniture Making at South West TAFE and said it was the ideal course for her.

She said she was nervous about starting the course as it was completely out of her comfort zone, but the teachers and students were amazing.

“I had never had any experience with tools which was a big drawcard. I was able to learn how to use tools safely and create pieces of furniture that were exactly what I wanted in my house,” she said.

Danielle said she had learnt about 3D design and all of the basic woodworking techniques that she had never had to do before.

“I’ve now got a huge to-do list at home. There’s a lot of furniture that I’d like to attempt to put into our house but to make furniture to sell would be the ideal one day,” she said.

Danielle was awarded the Certificate II in Furniture Making pre-apprenticeship award at South West TAFE’s recent Trades Awards and said she was surprised and humbled to win the award.

“It’s been such an amazing experience. My personal growth has ben huge and it’s been a great confidence booster. It’s been fabulous,” she said.
