Adia finds her dream job in the kitchen

ADIA Quinlivan started studying VCAL in year 10 at the encouragement of a friend and said it was the best decision she has ever made.

“I realised I was a hands-on learner and the VCAL style of study really suited me,” she said.

She completed her Senior VCAL and Certificate III in Hospitality studies last year while also working part-time.

She was awarded Youth Student of the Year at the South West TAFE’s 2019 Graduation and Awards ceremony in March.

Adia said the life skills she received as part of her course were invaluable.

Since finishing her VCAL studies, Adia has become head chef at local Portland café Bahloo.

“I never dreamed I would be able to gain a position like this, especially at such a young age,” she said.

Adia said she was so grateful to have gained her qualifications which had led her to her current job and furthering her knowledge in the hospitality industry.

South West TAFE VCAL teacher Tracy Jensen said Adia had taken on a leadership role within class and was always motivating other students to produce a high standard of work.

Adia said she loved her work and was continuing to learn new skills every day.
