Kim turns her love for gardening and the outdoors into a career
“I had always wanted to learn horticulture but it was never the right time. My kids were too young and the cost made me hold off. But when it was offered as a free course I jumped at it,” she said.
Kim enrolled in the Certificate II in Horticulture at South West TAFE and loved it.
“The teachers were great. They had great knowledge and it was such a fun environment to learn in,” she said.
Living on a one-acre block, Kim originally enrolled in the course to gain knowledge in what to plant on her own property.
Her garden is now thriving and she even has a job in the industry.
Kim said she was so excited to have gained a job as an apprentice for local business Garden Gurl and is now studying her Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.
“I love my job. It’s so hands on and we get to be really creative with garden design which is so fun,” she said.
Kim said the skills she had learnt at SWTAFE had given her so much confidence in her work.
“I just love being able to help people create gardens that work better for them. It’s just so satisfying,” she said.
