SWTAFE's graduating students celebrated

South West TAFE graduates and outstanding students of 2024 were celebrated at the Lighthouse Theatre on March 4.

More than 400 people attended the ceremony to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of 57 graduating diploma students from the areas of accounting, agriculture, beauty, business, community services, conservation and ecosystem management, early childhood education and care, nursing and visual arts.

The night also included the presentation of the 2024 Outstanding Student Awards, a Deakin University Award and an Industry Collaboration Award.

South West TAFE CEO Mark Fidge said the awards night was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the success of our students.

“It was a great evening celebrating our students’ achievements and acknowledging the valuable partnerships we have throughout the region,” he said.

Award winners on the night included:

  • Vocational Student of the Year: Bryan Barrerra (Nursing, Hamilton)
  • Apprentice of the Year: Kasey Smith (Electrotechnology, Warrnambool)
  • Koorie Student of the Year: Josephine Chivers (Individual Support, Warrnambool)
  • Trainee of the Year: Indyana Sparrow (Individual Support, Hamilton)
  • School Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year: Abbey Munro, (Individual Support, Casterton)
  • Deakin University Award: Bree Davis (Early Childhood Education and Care, Camperdown)

 

The 2024 Industry Collaboration Award winners were:

  • Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation
  • Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation
  • Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation

Mr Fidge said it was wonderful to hear so many of our graduating students following their passions and now in employment in their chosen fields or going on to further study.

“It’s great that South West TAFE can play a part in changing people’s lives and leading them on to further study or employment,” he said.
