Work experience sparks Liam’s interest in plumbing
Work experience during high school gave Liam Ryan a taste for a career in the plumbing industry.
Since then, he hasn’t looked back.
He finished his VCE studies in Portland and was then offered a job as an apprentice with Finchett’s Plumbing in Hamilton.
“The training I got at South West TAFE has helped in every aspect of the work I do every day,” he said.
Coming from a family with no trade background, he was able to learn and develop all of the fine hand skills required for his job.
“I just love what I do. I love the variety of work in the plumbing industry and really enjoy the challenge of drainage work and laying sewer mains,” he said.
Liam said he enjoyed trade school and was proud of his achievement in completing his VBA journeyman’s exams.
Last year he was awarded the best third year plumbing apprentice at the South West TAFE Trades Awards night and in March this year he was awarded the highly commended Apprentice of the Year award at South West TAFE’s Graduation and Awards ceremony.
Liam now has plans to further his knowledge in the industry and continue to study.
